Even When You're Not Here My Hands Still Hurt You

Description

I originally sketched this a very long time ago and then completely forgot about it so I'm not entirely sure what the original idea behind it was. I do think though it was partially inspired by this piece of music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmburH… . And probably came to me on some horrible, long sleepless night.

I was talking to a friend in my class at college and through the conversation I realised that the concept aspect of my work is probably the weakest. Is it art if there isn't a strong concept behind it? Can I basically just paint stuff I find pretty and that's art? Normally I have a vivid image in my head of what I want to create and then I work towards that, but I noticed that she (and this is also what we're taught to do at college) starts with a concept, with no idea of what the final piece will be, and through design and experimentation creates an outcome. Does the process matter as long as the outcome is good? I also don't want to waste my time making work that won't help me get into uni. But I also just want to paint for the hell of it. Arhgndakj :faint: Man my head's a mess today.

I think the point of that rant was that I am having an art crisis and I need to chill out and just let it be :lmao: Pretty sure this happens fairly regularly
As for the piece I decided to use palette knives for the background! Never done that before lmao. But seriously, I am very very happy with how this came out.
Done in Winton oil paints on paper

Sorry for rambling, thanks for looking!

This really speaks to me

The stark contrast between the colour of her skin and the darkness swallowing her, along with the abstract appearance of the background are very bewitching.
Gorgeous work!
